Possible Landscape

"Dwell in Possibility," 2014, by Yolanda Sanchez

Possible Landscape

Every painting a tribute to certainty
or to a decision made

Yes that’s how it is
That branch there Its fingers lolling in the water

No animals visible
All of them in their tree trunks and warrens

the internal organs of the land
and a mossy body to shimmer above them

selflessly as a distraction

Sanctuary

"Garden in the Tree," Ji Dachun

Sanctuary

The memory of every thing I ever handled
sinks into skin to find bone

The body ingests what it has touched

and cells become sanctuary
for what is grazed and beloved

Recent Earworm: "Elk City" Samantha Crain

I just love Samantha Crain's voice and songwriting...this song, in particular, is so beautiful.

Happy Friday, friends!

Some links to share!
-This Tablet podcast, "The Jewish Starlets of Bollywood." So interesting!
-This article on Vox by Phil Edwards about the human voice behind Siri.
-#Charlestonsyllabus, a wonderful list of resources on the history of racial violence in America and race relations in general.
-A new Part and Parcel on Huffington Post featuring the amazing Nin Andrews. Her new book, Why God Is a Woman, blew my mind. You can read a few poems from the book in the post, along with our brief conversation about gender, identity, and danger. (And another fun tidbit--the cover artist for her book is Aron Wiesenfeld, whose image also appears on my book!)

Deleted Scene

"(Deleted Scenes) From an untouched landscape #8," 2013, by James Tylor

Deleted Scene

The helicopter mosquitoed by overhead
and the cloud paddled back past it

and this is a deleted scene

It lifts its head above the water
and then resubmerges

Many memories go the way of the ripple
Any recalled thing gets retrieved from this pond

from wet sleep to the heaviness of air

What happens to breath that rests on a car window
What did the corner of the street smell like
All those figurines in the once-passed garage sale
Dopey and Doc and a dragon
were they welcomed back into the house after
sitting on the grass all day

Where is the home for what has left
