First Words

First Words

Ready as the cursor is ready
to be shoved by your voice

So will the throat accept sound
that the air accepts

What made you speak
What took the sizzling end of meaning
and placed it in your mouth

What we love becomes language
The baby teaches herself that there is more to this place
than can be looked at

Drawbridge to the forgotten
To Void City
To stars put out to pasture

Language never works
to bring us into a clearer knowing
